According to W.W. Greener and the great Africa hunters of the time, the 8 bore was the largest practical calibre required for hunting dangerous game: 862 gr (56 g), Vo 5,232 ft⋅lbf (7,094 J)

* Uttendoerffer began production in 1855. In 1889 he sold his business to Rheinisch-Westfälischen Sprengstoff-Fabriken A.-G. (RWS).
